The non-cash payment grows in Uzbekistan

 

According to the information service of the Central Bank of Uzbekistan, in 2006 the circulation of funds by plastic cards grew 98,7% in Uzbekistan compared with that of 2005 and made up 284,5 billion soum.

Last year the amount of transactions using plastic cards issued by commercial banks of Uzbekistan increased 1,4 times, 9,66 million soum. 

At present 21 commercial banks of Uzbekistan issue plastic cards for national-currency-based cleaning-off. The Central Bank of Uzbekistan states that as of January 1, 2007 banks in the country have issued totally 3,2 million plastic cards which is as more as 53% compared with that of 2006. The commercial banks have set 3,24 thousand cash machines in trading and servicing establishments and centers of bank services, and their total number reached 14,43 thousand.

The intensive increase of plastic-card cleaning-off system has been observed in Uzbekistan since September of 2004 when the government made a decision on releasing the commercial banks from property tax on cash machines terminals and communication equipments, and software for plastic card payments.
