The Uzbek-Indian business forum will be hold on March 2, this year at the metropolitan “International Business Center” within the framework of visit of the FICCI delegation headed by Dr. Dinesh Awasthi, the Director of Entrepreneurship Development Institute of India to Uzbekistan.
During the event the participants will be acquainted with prospects of bilateral cooperation in various sectors of economy, investment potential of Uzbekistan, as well as investment cooperation opportunities, including within the framework of “Navoi” Free Industrial Economic Zone. Upon completion of business forum the sectional meetings with participation of Uzbek and Indian business communities take place.
One should to note, that the Republic of Uzbekistan attributes a great importance to strengthening of multilateral partnership with the Republic of India. The diplomatic relations between our countries have been established on March, 1992. The legal basis of mutual relations of two states was laid during the Official visits of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan H.E. Islam Karimov to the Republic of India on August, 1991, January, 1994 and May, 2000. In particular, then the Agreements “On trade and economic cooperation“, “On the mutual promotion and protection of investments”, “On avoiding of double taxation” and other documents were signed.
The State visit of the President Islam Karimov to India on April, 2005 became a significant landmark in development of bilateral cooperation. During this visit, 13 documents of intergovernmental and interdepartmental level, such as intergovernmental cooperation agreements on the field of small-scale business and private entrepreneurship, education and culture, Memorandum of understanding with the State Trading Corporation of India, the Protocol on mutual understanding between “Uzbektourism” National Company and Tourism Development Corporation of India were signed.
The effective mechanism of bilateral cooperation development is the work of the Intergovernmental Commission on trade-economic, scientific and technical cooperation between the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Republic of India, last, 8th session of which has taken place on September, 2008 inDelhi.
On 2010 the commodity turnover between our countries increased to 21.1 percent as against 2009 and made up 151.0 million USD. Up-to-date 62 joint ventures, established with contribution of Indian investors, including 11 enterprises with total-lot Indian capital are operated in Uzbekistan. They are specialized on manufacture of consumer goods, medicines, textile outputs, detergents, working up tanning and agricultural products, as well as on the field of tourism and trade. Moreover, agencies of 18 Indian companies, working on production and sale of pharmaceutical outputs established in country.
