Modernization of the New Angren TPS is scheduled
The project aims to use coal in the thermal power station’s boilers all year round and construct power generating unit 8, taking into consideration technical re-equipment of Angren open-cast mine. The “Uzog’irneftgazkimyoproekt” under the Uzbek Ministry of Economy developed its preliminary feasibility report for the project. The project’s term is two years; it is financed by the Fund for Reconstruction and Development of Uzbekistan and foreign credits. Its implementation is to increase the New Angren Thermal Power Station’s efficiency by using high quality standard fuel – brown coal with 25% ash content and caloricity of not less than 2,900 kcal/kg – from the Angren coal field. The project will let to release natural gas containing valuable components from consumption and direct it to the gas chemical industry. The project ensures to introduce new alternative technologies and resource-saving equipment, cut down the New Angren Thermal Power Station’s expenditures of electricity generation at the expense of natural gas that is partially released from technological process of power units. The project implementation will increase power engineering in the New Angren Thermal Power Station for satisfying increasing demand for electricity in the region and ensure trouble-free operation of its boilers and equipment. For supplying the thermal power station with high quality standard fuel the project aims to introduce selective excavation of coal of the Upper and Powerful Coal Complexes in the Angren open cast mine, using cyclic technologies. In turn, it excludes the necessity of constructing concentrator in the open cast and, as a result, it cuts specific consumption of material and energy resource in producing one tons of coal and reduces production cost of coal with necessary ash content. Technical solutions of reequipping the Angren open cast mine using resource-saving technologies and logistics will increase the coal producer’s efficiency, cut production expenditures and improve stripping technology. The New Angren Thermal Power Station’s fixed capacity is 2,100 Megawatts. Its first power unit was launched in 1985 and the last one, seventh in 2000. The power station supply main industries and population of Tashkent region with electricity. The New Angren Thermal Power Station is Uzbekistan’s one of two power stations partially firing coal (in heating season). "Uzbekistan today"
