CIS leaders to meet in Bishkek to discuss economic cooperation

  

A session of the Council of the Heads of States of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) will be held in Bishkek, capital city of the Kyrgyz Republic, on 10 October, the CIS Executive Committee said.

The CIS leaders will consider over 21 draft documents at their session, the CIS Executive Committee underlined.

The main issues in the agenda will be a draft strategy of economic development of the Commonwealth till 2020, which was developed by special working group.

The document coordinates views on common targets, priorities and perspectives of social-economic development of the CIS states till 2020. The document meets interests of the each member states and it does not contradicts to development of relations with the third countries.

The CIS leaders will also discuss issues of cooperation in energy sphere and determine energy cooperation of the CIS states as priority issue in 2009.

Belarus suggested to announce 2009 as the Year of Youth in the CIS, which will be considered at the session of the CIS leaders.

The heads of the CIS will also review a package of documents on status of chairmanship in the CIS, national coordinators of the member-states, rules and procedures of the Council of the Heads of States, the Council of Heads of Governments, etc.

Among issues in the agenda are celebration of the 65th anniversary of World War Two victory, CIS policy on illegal migration, transborder cooperation, security issues, fight against illegal turnover of drugs and others.

It is expected that the CIS leaders will determine time and place of the next session of the CIS Council of Heads of States.
