British parliamentary delegation visiting UzbekistanMembers of the delegation of the British parliament headed by chairman of Britain-Uzbekistan parliamentary group John Waverley held talks with chairman of Senate of Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan Ilgizar Sobirov. The sides considered issues of expansion of parliamentary cooperation. The foreign guests also got acquainted with the activity of the parliament of Uzbekistan. At the end of the meeting, the memorandum of understanding was signed between the Uzbek parliament’s group for cooperation with British parliament and the Britain-Uzbekistan all-party group of the British parliament. The document envisages expansion and strengthening of ties between the parliaments and development of political, economic and social relations. The British parliamentary delegation also held negotiations with the speaker of the Legislative Chamber (lower house) of the Oliy Majlis Dilorom Tashmuhamedova Britain-Uzbekistan parliamentary group was set up in 2009 in order to develop cooperation between various organizations and bodies of the two countries, boost inter-parliamentary dialogue and develop ties between the two states. President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov on 19 September met John Waverley on London on his way to New York for the UN summit. UzA.uz 23.09.2010 14:19
