ADB increases capacities of PTL laid from Uzbekistan to Afghanistan

The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has approved a million allocation to develop electricity network in the capital of Afghanistan. A corresponding agreement was signed between the Ministry of Finance of Afghanistan and the ADB administration.

Considerable part of the allocated funds will be directed on the increase of capacities of power transmission line (PTL) laid from Uzbekistan to Afghanistan.

The situation improved greatly in this sphere in Kabul when Uzbekistan began supplying electrical power. Nevertheless 30% of Kabul residents still have no permanent access to electricity, according to Afghan mass media's information.

It should be reminded that PTL-500 Guzar-Surkhan was put into operation in December 2009 when the power supply from Uzbekistan to Afghanistan increased six times – from 25 megawatts to 150 megawatts. Currently 2.3 million KWh is supplied by Uzbekistan to Mazari-Sharif and Kabul daily.
